125 years of tradition and innovation
At Furhoffs, we take pride in our journey from a small copper workshop to becoming a leading provider of stainless steel solutions for a sustainable society. From the very beginning, our goal has been clear: to craft high-quality products with exceptional craftsmanship that last for generations.
C. Furhoffs Copper workshop
Furhoffs Rostfria was founded in 1899 when Carl Furhoff took over a copper workshop on Torggatan in Skövde. This small business, then named "C. Furhoffs Kopparslageri" (C. Furhoffs Copper workshop) produced everyday copper items for households and laid the foundation for Furhoffs' family enterprise. Over four generations, it has evolved into a leading provider of stainless steel solutions for a sustainable society.
Stainless Steel
Over the years, Furhoffs has continuously adapted to new materials and production methods. In the 1920s, the company began working with stainless steel—a durable and versatile material that quickly became central to its operations. Production soon expanded to include stainless steel sinks and milk tanks, driving rapid growth.
In the 1930s, when the second generation, Olle and Elis Furhoff, took over the business, the company name was changed to "Bröderna Furhoff" (The Furhoff Brothers), and a new factory was built on Varnhemsgatan in Skövde to meet the growing demand for stainless steel products. By the 1950s, we further expanded our workshop facilities.
Stainless Steel Tanks and Expansion
In the 1960s, the third generation of the Furhoff family took over, and the company continued to grow. In 1965, a new factory was built on Haganders väg, where we still operate today, and the company name was changed to AB Furhoffs Rostfria.
Among our largest customers at the time was Vin & Spritbolaget, for whom we manufactured storage tanks over many years, with a total storage capacity exceeding 35 million liters.
Floor Drains and Stainless Steel Furnishings
In the 1970s, Furhoffs began manufacturing stainless steel floor drains. Initially produced primarily from leftover materials from other production processes, our floor drains have since become a key product category.
Similarly, our wash troughs, which remain part of our product range today, have played a significant role in many public environments, including schools, workplaces, and healthcare facilities.
Investments for the Future
As technology has advanced, Furhoffs has continued to invest in modern machinery and digitalization. In 1994, we made a significant leap forward with our first laser cutting machine, which enabled us to produce stainless steel components for other companies—laying the foundation for our subcontracting services.
In the 2000s, we continued with further machinery investments, including the latest fiber laser machines and advanced lathes, to streamline and enhance production. In recent years, Furhoffs has focused heavily on an extensive digitalization journey, integrating all company processes to achieve even greater precision and flexibility.
Two Strong Business Areas
Today, Furhoffs Rostfria focuses on two main business areas:
FURO Products – Our products under the FURO brand are tailored for the Nordic HVAC and construction market. We provide high-quality stainless steel floor drains and furnishing products, specifically designed for demanding public environments where durability and hygiene are critical.
Subcontracting Services – Through our subcontracting services, we manufacture custom stainless steel components for customers in Sweden and worldwide. Our modern machinery and extensive craftsmanship enable us to meet each customer's specific requirements, contributing to their success.
A Stainless Team with Eyes on the Future
At Furhoffs, we take pride in our history and our journey from a small copper workshop to a leading player in stainless steel solutions for a sustainable society. With over 125 years of experience behind us, we look forward together as a stainless team.
We remain committed to quality, sustainability, and innovation, with an ambition to always stay ahead for the benefit of our customers and society. As we like to say at Furhoffs:
We can get a little better every day!
Inherited from Småland and the Copperworking Tradition
Furhoffs' heritage and history trace back to Småland and Magnus Paulsson, born in 1804. Magnus and his son, Olof Magnus, became the first copper smiths in the family. During his journeyman travels in 1855, he adopted the name Furhoff, after the parishes of Furuby and Hofmantorp in Småland, from where the family originates.
The name is still carried with pride and serves as a symbol of our long history and craftsmanship tradition.
